DR coats these strings with a proprietary coating before the winding process to provide extra protection. Coated strings last longer than traditional non-coated strings because they protect the metal from corroding due to perspiration, oils from your fingers and other contaminants that can find their way inside the windings and dull the sound of your guitar. These Black Beauties are a medium gauge and a lighter gauge is also available.
